The Place
Guji, Ethiopia | Kerchanshe, Uraga washing station
With over 60 different varieties, Ethiopia boasts the most coffee biodiversity of any region in the world. Once part of Yirgacheffe, the microclimate here produces such unique coffees that it earned a place as its own distinct coffee-growing region. Most coffee farms are intercropped with other food crops to maximize land use and support local families, and are often organic by default, with few traditional farmers ever using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Guji’s Uraga region is a dense, mountainous forest of almost a thousand square miles, situated at some of Ethiopia’s most extreme altitudes. Within this expansive forest are three smaller forests—Larcho Torka, Yabitu Koba, and Harsu Haro—from which we’ve brought together their individually nuanced beans to produce one of the most spectacular coffees in our range.
The Taste
A showcase of the dynamic flavors only Ethiopian coffees can deliver. Lush and intensely floral, ultra juicy, and refreshing, the first sip delivers a heady aroma of apricots, peaches, and blueberries, and as the cup cools, layers of Earl grey, and oolong reveal themselves. It’s an utterly luxurious cup that’s still approachable enough to be enjoyed anytime you need a moment of serenity.
